WHAT TO EXPECT
On Sunday morning we have our main gathering at 11am at Amazing Grace. Our service generally follows a simple format of praise & worship, Bible-teaching & Communion.
Praise & Worship
After a welcome & call to worship the worship team lead us a time of praise & worship. Between songs people are free to participate by praying, reading Scripture or briefly sharing something that will encourage others in their Christian faith. This slot normally lasts around 30 mins & is followed by a prayer & weekly announcements. At this point, at around 11.35am, the children go out to Sunday School for the remainder of the service to learn about Christian faith in a way that is engaging for their age group.
Bible-teaching
After the weekly announcements the Bible is then read & preached. We believe the Bible is God’s Word & therefore we place high value on careful & consistent Biblical preaching. The Bible more than anything else helps us to grow in our understanding of who God is, what the Gospel is, & how to live out our Christian faith. The sermon normally lasts around 25 minutes.
Communion
Following the sermon we then sing a hymn together & prepare to receive Communion. Then after a short time of reflection the symbols of bread & wine are then prayed over & distributed to the congregation. At this point people can feel free to participate again, especially with prayers of thanksgiving for Christ's sacrifice on the Cross. The worship team then complete our time together by leading us in another song before a closing prayer or blessing.
All our gatherings are open to everyone & at the end of each meeting we encourage people to stay behind for a cup of tea or coffee. This gives people a chance to build relationships & get get to know each other. It's an important part of our time together. It says of the early church in Acts 2:42; “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” It is our desire to simply do the same, not just in our main gathering but in all we do as a church.
